Project on development of legal and institutional infrastructures for sound management of chemicals in developing countries and countries with economies in transition

Sound Management of chemicals will depend on the development of national institutions and infrastructures including legislation, regulation and assessment of chemicals together with monitoring and enforcement of these. However, most developing countries and many countries with economies in transition have not managed to establish the necessary national legal, technical and institutional infrastructures for the sound management of chemicals.

Based on this the Swedish Chemicals Agency (KEMI) and UNEP Chemicals have in collaboration developed a project to assist developing countries and countries in transition in the development of such infrastructures.

The project will include a number of workshops:

The first workshop was in Riga on 7-8 December 2006.

The second workshop was in Bangkok on 24-25 May 2007.

The third workshop was in Panama City on 12-13 February 2008.

The fourth workshop will take place in Dar es Salaam on 14-15 July 2008.
