UNEP-KemI Project - Phase 2: Development and Field Testing of a Toolkit

A comprehensive and practical toolkit is currently being developed, based on the outcomes of the four regional workshops held between 2006 and 2008. The toolkit will consist of a review of existing legal and institutional infrastructures paying special attention to the gaps to be addressed within the SAICM process, as well as an applicable methodology for filling the gaps and building relevant infrastructures given the specific context of the country/ sector/ product considered.

A draft version of the toolkit will be circulated for review and comments after testing is completed in a number of pilot country projects. While testing the process proposed in the advanced draft, the country projects are also instrumental in improving the guidance by providing concrete experiences and lessons learned from actual implementation.

A finalized version of the toolkit will be disseminated as part of Phase 3 of the KemI-UNEP project on “Development of Legal and Institutional Infrastructures for the Sound Management of Chemicals in Developing Countries and Countries with Economies in Transition”.
