In order to identify and assess the needs and non-financial barriers of developing countries and CEITs for the development of national institutions and legal infrastructures, four regional workshops were organized as a first phase of the KemI-UNEP project on “Development of Legal and Institutional Infrastructures for the Sound Management of Chemicals in Developing Countries and Countries with Economies in Transition”:
The workshops focused on the initial preventive steps in the supply chain of chemicals , often called “Chemicals Control”, that are taken before or when chemicals are placed on the market. The three themes for discussion were:
The workshops were organized in five sessions over one and a half day with introductory presentations to the three themes from countries, private sector and civil society. Group discussions for the three main sessions in relation to the theme of the session were integrated to allow for sharing views and experiences. A number of focus questions had been developed in advanced to assist in moderating the group discussions. The workshops were made possible by generous funding from the Swedish Government (through the Swedish Chemicals Agency (KEMI)). Documents from each of the workshops are provided below.
