| Mainstreaming the Sound Management of Chemicals - Children Environmental Health Project | ||||||||
The Steering Committee is the advisory group that guides UNEP’s work on Children’s Environmental Health focusing on the developing countries and countries with economies in transition As part of this process, the Steering group’s role is to advise on the work programme for the project development; provide advice on potential experts to join the Steering Committee at later stages, and consultants to conduct research, provide information and case studies to support consultants’ work, where possible and make recommendations for further dissemination of the project’s outcomes. Steering Committee’s expertise and input are essential to the CEH project development. The committee is comprised of representatives from the Governments of Japan and USA, OECD, WHO; WHO; UNICEF; and OECD and UNEP. This 1st Steering Committee meeting was held back-to-back with the Consultants’/Experts’ Group Workshop on the 24 March 2011. Discussions included results of the literature review on CEH in Developing Countries, activities, next steps, linkages with UNEP’s Harmful Substances and Hazardous Wastes sub-programme and its strong links to WHO with regard to environment and human health assessment and monitoring; the environment and health initiative in Africa (Libreville Declaration and the Luanda Commitment). A 2nd Steering Committee meeting is tentatively scheduled for the third quarter of the year 2011. |
