Termite Management -
Summary on Termite Management

The termite management summary/overview is based on different documents of GTEG, and aims to give easy access to information on termite management without POP termiticides.

It consists of three parts:

Termite Biology and Management
Alternatives to POP Termiticides for Constructions
Alternatives to POP Termiticides in Agriculture and Forestry

Termite management without POPs should be based on the principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). It is important to assess whether the damage caused by the termites is economically unacceptable, in particular in agriculture and forestry. A range of measures (alternatives) exist that allow for a reduction in reliance on pesticides. Integration aims at the optimal combination of measures for a local situation.

The selection of alternatives to be used in an integrated way is a process based on termite identification and knowledge of the biology and ecology of the termites identified.

The main advantage of reducing the use of POP pesticides through IPM is avoiding their negative effects on environment and health.
