Support for national PCB inventories

Many countries around the world are developing national PCB inventories and action plans as part of their National Implementation Plans for the Stockholm Convention.  UNEP Chemicals is providing complementary support for PCB inventory work in the following countries and regions.   

Southern Africa.  UNEP Chemicals, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Basel Convention and the Environmental Council of Zambia, supported the development of national inventories of PCBs and PCB-containing equipment in the 14 member countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).  The member countries are Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.    The project was funded by a number of donors including the Governments of Canada, France, Switzerland and the United States.

Project summary

Central America.  The Secretariat of the Basel Convention, in collaboration with UNEP Chemicals, the Basel Convention Regional Centre in El Salvador and the Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas, supported the development of national PCB inventories and action plans in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.  The principal donors for the project are Finland and the United States.  Click here for the report of the final project Workshop.
A Workshop on PCB management in Latin America and the Caribbean also took place in 2008.

Other projects.   With funding from the Government of Switzerland, UNEP Chemicals has also supported the development of national PCB inventories in Benin, Congo, Cuba, Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Peru, Senegal, Syria, Vietnam and Yemen during 2002-2004.
