Regional Monitoring and Analysis Projects in Asia (2008-2010)
According to article 16 of the Stockholm Convention on POPs, the Conference of the Parties has agreed on a Global Monitoring Plan (GMP) consisting of regional reports. In order to respond to request from developing countries in Asia, a regional project has been developed to strengthen their analytical capacity and to enable their contribution to the Global Monitoring Plan on POPs. The projects will also build-up a network of POPs laboratories at global level.
- Supporting the POPs GMP in the Pacific Islands Region (2008-2010)
A regional GEF project is being implemented in seven South-Pacific Island States, namely Fiji, Kiribati, Niue, Samoa, Palau, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu.
The regional coordination is by the University of South Pacific, Institute of Applied Science.
- Intercalibration Study for POPs Laboratories (2009)
High quality POPs data form the basis for any downstream assessment. The analytical results need to be reliable, meet international scientific standards, and have to be presented in a harmonized manner to make them acceptable for clients at international level. For laboratories, successful participation at relevant inter-laboratory comparison studies is key to prove their performance. The Norwegian government is financing an international inter-calibration study for POPs in biotic and abiotic matrices in the Asia region.
