Supporting country efforts
to take action on mercury pollution

GC decision 23/9 IV also requests the Executive Director to develop further the UNEP mercury programme with the aim of facilitating and conducting technical assistance and capacity-building activities through, among other things, the Bali Strategic Plan for Technology Support and Capacity-building, in order to support the efforts of countries to take action regarding mercury pollution.

UNEP has, through its fund raising activities since the last Governing Council, raised some limited funding that is available to support partnership activities and implementation projects at national or regional level. In addition, although UNEP may not be in a position to provide funding directly, the programme may be of assistance to countries in soliciting funding from other donors who are interested in supporting projects to address mercury pollution.

Interested Governments and other stakeholders are welcome to submit project proposals for consideration, accompanied by a letter to be signed by the proponent.  Please see "Overview and priorities" for further information.

A project proposal format (Word and PDF) that might assist Governments and other stakeholders when drafting project proposals is available.
