The LAC Mercury Storage Project Regional Consultation meeting is a platform for presenting and discussing the draft “Options Analysis for the Safe Long Term Storage of Mercury in the LAC Region” prepared by the Laboratorio Tecnológico del Uruguay (LATU). The draft options analysis study is available here. The meeting will also highlight, among others, important issues such as progress on the UNEP LAC mercury storage project, progress on mercury storage made in the US and the EU, the suggested framework for decision making for the safe management of excess mercury, relevant chapters in the draft Basel technical guidelines on the environmentally sound management of mercury waste, and the UNEP Global Mercury Partnership on Supply and Storage.
