UNEP Chemicals, together with the Basel Convention Regional Centre in Buenos
Aires and the Secretariat for Environment and Sustainable Development of
Argentina, organized a regional awareness
raising workshop on mercury pollution for countries of Latin America in
Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 13 to 16 September 2004.
The workshop was attended by 16 countries in the region (two
representatives from each country), in addition to a number of invited
resource persons from the North American Commission on Environmental
Cooperation (Canada), Italy and the US, IGOs
(such as , UNIDO) and NGOs (such as the Natural Resources Defense Council,
the Associação de Combate aos POPs, the Asociación de Mèdicos por el
Medio Ambiente, Chlorosur).
