All data are stored in the IRPTC central file system. The Register uses the computer facilities of the United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC) in Geneva. A version of the databank on a personal computer platform is now available too.
IRPTC has developed a Gopher server as part of UNEP(Geneva) Internet services with searching facilities to the mainframe Database. Please read the instructions before making any search. To switch from this Web Server to the IRPTC Gopher server click here.
The stored information is used to print various types of document such as the data profiles for chemical substances as well as specialized reports, extracts of the legal file regarding controls over hazardous chemicals, and the waste management file .
The register Index and data profiles can be requested directly from IRPTC . The complete databank is accessible on-line (through telephone lines) thanks to the Canadian Department of Health and Welfare through the national telecommunications network in Canada (INET 2000).
The Legal File , with its records on 8,000 substances, and the Waste Management File are also available on-line from the Environmental Chemicals Data and Information Network (ECDIN) through the EURONET, TELEPAK and TYMNET electronic communications systems. Countries such as China, the Federal Republic of Germany, Peru, Poland Thailand and the United States have received the information contained in the databank on magnetic tape.
