ENDOCRINE DISRUPTive COMPOUNDS IN EAST ASIA (EDC)

Since 1999, United Nations University (UNU) has been managing a network of water pollution monitoring in coastal areas of 8 East Asian countries: China, Korea, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam. Its focus is on endocrine disruptive compounds (EDC’s), some of which also happen to be POPs. Specifically the programme targets the following set of compounds:

- organochlorine pesticides (DDT, DDE, HCH, endrin, dieldrin, etc.)

- alkylphenols and bisphenyl-A

- phthalates
