The main objective of the DDT Information
System (DDT-IS) is to
facilitate the exchange of information and
experience on issues relating to DDT use in
disease vector control (DVC). Furthermore,
the DDT-IS provides a vehicle to carry
information to support obligations under the
Stockholm Convention
(SC) in relation to DDT, with the following
specific objectives:
- Assist
the SC Conference of the Parties
(COP) to evaluate the continued need
of DDT for DVC;
-
Provide access to existing WHO Recommendations and Guidelines concerning the use of DDT for DVC;
- Receive information about, and be
capable of analyzing trends on
relevant national policy,
production, import/export,
use, alternatives, stockpiles and
disposal of DDT;
- Provide a comprehensive overview of the DDT situation by country, region and globally;
- Facilitate the exchange of information and experiences between countries on issues
relating to the reduction of reliance on DDT for DVC;
- Assist countries in the development and execution of National Implementation Plans (NIPs) on POPs,
by providing easy access to relevant and critical information relating to the use of DDT for DVC;
- Support GEF funded regional DDT projects by providing relevant background information and collecting data
on best practices from the inter-regional project coordination into the SC COP evaluation process;
- Provide summary information on DDT covering the available data for each DDT reporting country; and
- Facilitate reporting on DDT and its alternatives used for DVC.
