Stockholm Convention - Decisions on DDT

The Stockholm Convention (SC) stipulates that the Conference of Parties (COP), commencing at its first meeting and at least every three years thereafter, in collaboration with WHO will take decisions and evaluate the continued need for DDT in disease vector control (DVC) on the basis of available scientific, technical, environmental and economic information. This includes:

  • Production and use of DDT as well as the conditions of its use;
  • Availability, suitability and implementation of alternatives to DDT; and
  • Progress in strengthening the capacity of countries to transfer safely to reliance on such alternatives.

The COP Evaluations and Decisions on DDT will guide the Parties on the future production and use of DDT for DVC.
