Reported amounts of DDT used in 2000 about 18.971 kg, in 2001 0 kg and in 2002 about 45.113 kg.6

In Madagascar, after severe malaria epidemics in 1987, DDT was re-introduced for vector control. This use of DDT has gradually decreased from 208 t in 1993 to 60 t in 2002.5

In the reporting period 2001-2003 no alternatives were implemented, but in the period 2003-2005 one chemical substitute was used.1

Between 1997 and 2005 3.865 kg of pyrethroids were used for malaria vector control (mostly in 1999 - 3.121 kg and 2005 - 663 kg).6.3

Based on epidemiological surveillance data, spraying operations in Madagascar have reduced by 50% the quantities of DDT used from 250 t to 125 t over a period of 5 years.5
