Assessment of Existing Capacity and Capacity Building Needs to Analyze POPs in Developing Countries

Lack of analytical capacity in almost all developing countries and access to POPs laboratories is considered one of the crucial issues for countries to fulfill the obligations of the Stockholm Convention. In order to assess the existing capacity worldwide and the capacity building needs in developing countries to analyze persistent organic pollutants (POPs), the Global Environment Facility (GEF) in conjunction with several donor countries approved this project, which has been implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP Chemicals) from 2005 to 2008.
