Reviews
of scientific information
on lead and cadmium
Drafting
process
Governments,
intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations
were invited, through a
letter dated 16 May 2005 and a follow-up letter dated 28 February, to consider
submitting information relevant to the
scientific reviews and nominating member(s)
to the Working Group on lead and cadmium that will assist UNEP in
finalizing the reviews on lead and cadmium.
All the information submitted by Governments, inter-governmental
organizations, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders can
be accessed here.
The first drafts of the reviews
of scientific information on lead and cadmium were circulated for comments to all
members of the working group on lead and
cadmium on 24 May 2006. The drafts were sent by email to members with e-mail
access and mailed out to those without such access. In addition, the
drafts were sent to
other Governments and/or organizations that, although they had not yet nominated a member
to the working group, had submitted information to
this process.
The send-out was
accompanied by an email note explaining how the reviews were
drafted and the types of comment and input being sought from working group
members. This note can be accessed
here.
As
the process followed in developing the 2002
UNEP Global Mercury Assessment
report proved to be successful, ensuring a transparent process and
broad ownership of its results and recommendations, a similar process will
be used to develop the reviews of lead and cadmium.
Members of the working group on lead and
cadmium were requested to send comments, as soon as possible, but no later
that
30 June 2006, to:
