Call for information

The Director of UNEP, Division of Technology, Industry and Economics, Sylvie Lemmet, through her letter dated 24 April 2007  */, called for a range of further activities on mercury and other metals in accordance to the decision 24/3 adopted by the twenty-fourth session of the Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum on 9 February 2007.

Through the Governing Council decision 24/3 there are a number of actions to be taken by Governments, in particular in relation to details of the information requested in part III of the decision (Lead and cadmium). The requested information on lead and cadmium should be submitted to UNEP Chemicals by 30 September 2007 **/.

Details of the information requested are outlined here (English, Spanish and French). These details correspond to attachment IV of the above-mentioned letter, which full version can be downloaded here (English, Spanish and French). Attention is drawn to the fact that, as adopted in Governing Council decision 24/3 III, further action is needed to fill those gaps [the data and information gaps identified in the United Nations Environment Programme Interim Scientific Reviews on Lead and Cadmium], taking into account the specific situation of developing countries and countries with economies in transition and to compile an inventory of existing risk management measures.

Further details on data and information gaps can be found in Chapter 10 of the interim reviews of scientific information on lead and cadmium and in Annexes I and II -section IX- of the report of the first meeting of the Lead and Cadmium Working Group.

In order to ensure an open, transparent and inclusive process, all information received by UNEP Chemicals are made available on a running basis through this webpage. You can access all the information submitted below, depending on whether the submitter was a Government, an intergovernmental organization or a non-governmental organization.

Based on the above-mentioned received information, the interim reviews of scientific information on lead and cadmium - Version of March 2008- were circulated to members of the Lead and Cadmium Working Group for comments by 13th June 2008. Those last round of comments received from Governments, Intergovernmental organizations or Non-governmental organizations have also been included in the above-mentioned information sections.

The
